Noteworthy events from 2021 Autumn Signup Night

25-32 league members were in attendance on this beautifully-weathered Autumn evening.  The signup sheets indicate 14 teams and two additional individuals who are as-yet unclaimed on a team.  The season’s match play  officially begins on 07Oct2021.

11 captains/delegates participated in a rule change discussion/debate/vote.
Key points and changes resulting from it:

  1. They agreed to reject a proposal to utilize tangible tickets for the raffle.  Instead, the league will keep the electronic randomization technique (no matter who “clicks the button”).
  2. They agreed to reject a proposal to slice a piece of the league’s pot as a monetary award for the Top Shooter.  Instead, the league will keep the practice of posting a placard with applicable data.
  3. They agreed to adopt an optional $5-entry side pot for the season’s Top Shooter.  In other words, those who wish to participate can invest a grand total of $5 by the 3rd week of the season and therefore be eligible to collect on that side pot once the season ends.  It will be awarded to the highest season-ending points-per-game average among participants who qualify with at least 75% of the season’s weeks played.
  4. All other rules from the 2021 Summer season remain intact.

Raffle Status:

  1. Ed S made a ball on his Table 12 break.  He then perfectly made an approximate 115-degree slice on the 1-ball into the northwest corner pocket.  The cue-ball carom was insufficient for position on the 2-ball to the southwest corner, so he cashed out with two ninths of the available pot.
  2. Nancy was selected and also sank at least the 1-ball on her Table 08 break.  With cue-ball positioned in the northwest quadrant and 2-ball snugly in the middle of the eastern rail and two object balls interfering between them, she was forced to attempt a kick shot.  Kicking against either side rail was unappealing because of other object balls.  Still, she made a great hit off the southeastern side rail and the 2-ball stayed on the table anyway.
  3. The remaining raffle pot rolls over to opening night.

Other notes:

  1. Two particular teams have returned for the first time since our 2020 Spring season’s cancellation.  Welcome back to the Road Warriors and Free Agents!
  2. Two brand new teams (although each is captained by a league veteran) are also signed up.
  3. The other 10 teams are pretty-much the same as those we had in the 2021 Summer Season.
