Noteworthy events from 2022 Winter Week 03

Outstanding outing(s):

  1. Esteban Q accomplished the league’s first perfect 80 of the season.
  2. His teammate Cruz A scored 76.
  3. Larry P shot a 75.

RAFFLE Status:

  1. Allie C broke the rack on Table 04 with just enough impact to sink a ball. Then the cue-ball came back from the side rail with just enough impact to free the 1-ball for a shot at the southwest corner pocket.  After a denied plea to have everyone stop looking at her, Allie executed a vigorous shot that missed.
  2. Wes P spent calm patience on getting Table 03 racked appropriately.
    • His break shot propelled the 5-ball into the northwest corner pocket.
    • After settling, all balls were reasonably separated and Wes was all smiles.
    • The cue-ball was a little west of the south side pocket near the rail with a clear shot at the 1-ball to the southeast corner.
    • His shot dropped the 1-ball and, after caroming off the foot rail, lined up straight for the 2-ball in the same pocket.
    • His draw shot sank the 2 but had nil draw and he cashed out for one third of the available pot.
  3. The remaining raffle pot rolls over to Week 04.

OTHER:

  1. Adrian P played his first league match in several years.
  2. Three different teams scored 291 points this week.  Two of those teams played against each other on Tables 08 & 09.
  3. There are a grand total of five players (Jerry R, Romy G, Kevin G, Mona T, and Scott C) in the Top Shooter side-pot competition this season.  Whichever of them qualifies with the highest per-game average among them and 75% or more weeks played by the season’s end, will win that pot.
  4. There were two consecutive calls (okay, a few minutes apart) for referee consultation.  The latter one highlighted a reminder of a rarely referenced BCA applied-rule regarding stalemate:
    • If a referee judges that the table is in a position such that any attempt to pocket or move a ball will result in loss of game on that shot, or that the game is not progressing because the position of the table has not significantly changed through three consecutive innings by each player, the referee will declare a stalemate and the game will be replayed with the player who broke the game breaking again.
