Noteworthy events from 2022 Winter Week 12 (Party)

Outstanding outing(s):

  1. The final tournament match was ready to play at about 10:30pm, but the participants elected to chop the pot evenly instead.
    • The team of Mona T + John V (team nickname was 8 Shots) won their semi-final match against the team of Ed S + Nancy K.
    • The team nicknamed Tom Cruise (partners were Tom K + Cruz A)  won their semi-final match against the team of Esteban Q + Lito G.
    • Rumor has it that 8 Shots went undefeated throughout.  Also ran out their final two games – thus the nickname.

RAFFLE Status:

  1. Mike K sank the 1-ball on his Table 13 break and had unimpeded shape for the 2-ball in the southeast corner.  He popped it in and kept shapes alive for the 3-ball into the northeast corner.  It was sitting slightly off the northeast rail and slightly south of the pocket.  Mike spent a little time planning and then sank it.  His leave on the 4-ball was undesirable, so he cashed in for one third of the available pot.
  2. Dave G sank at least one ball on his break shot and followed it with a successful 1-ball shot.  The 2-ball was slightly off the south side pocket, but Dave chose the southeast corner pocket instead.  It was a tough choice whether or not to even shoot because it wasn’t a straight-on angle for the cue.  He missed.
  3. The remaining raffle pot rolls over to next week’s official 2022 Spring season sign-up night!

OTHER:

  1. The end of season ceremony included the following announcements:
    • The Road Warriors team finished in 1st place and was awarded 23% of the season’s pot.
    • Larry P was the league’s official Top Shooter with a 9.050 points per game average.
    • Scott C won the top-shooter Side-Pot against four competitors.
    • Mark H was recognized with the greatest average-per-game percentage improvement when comparing final average to that from Week 01.
    • Other stats from this season:
      1. 60 of our 70 rostered players had at least one week played.
      2. We added 3 players make their league debuts.
      3. Four cashed-in (now five) raffle winnings – Wes P did it twice.
      4. Of the 251 raffle weeks we’ve had since the beginning of the 2017 Spring season and excluding this party night, 88 of those weeks had somebody cash in.  That’s 35.06% of the weeks – or better than once every 3 weeks.
  2. Seven 18-inch pizzas arrived slightly before 8pm and were 100% consumed.
  3. Five incumbent teams signed up for the upcoming 2022 Spring season.  A final sign-up opportunity will be available to the general public (including incumbents) on Thursday, 14Apr2022 beginning at approximately 6:30pm.
  4. The scotch-doubles tournament had 20 participants (10 teams).
  5. During their tournament match on Table 07, Romy G used one of John V’s feet to propel Romy to the floor.  Romy was fine after a pair of gentlemen helped him back to being vertical.
  6. Former league members and teammates Immer H, John R, and Roger M rented Table 10 and schmoozed with us for a few hours.
  7. Contact your captains if you didn’t collect your prize money yet from the 2022 Winter season.
