Noteworthy events from 2022 Autumn Week 01

Outstanding outing(s):

  1. Ed S had the only perfect 80.
  2. Andreas R shot a 77.
  3. Romy G and John V each tallied 76.

RAFFLE Status:

  1. Dave K (first night in our league) dropped the 3-ball into the northwest corner of Table 11 on his break shot.  The 1-ball was just outside the southeast corner. The cue-ball rested on the table’s footer half near middle. The 2-ball was near and a little west of it.
    • Dave easily made the 1 and lined up for the 2 in the northwest corner.
    • The 6-ball was “leaning” on that corner, but Dave proved he could sink the 2 without any interference.
    • He then deliberated a while because his leave on the 4-ball was a physical stretch and would require a carom of cue-ball into the 6. Additionally, the likelihood of leaving the 4 in a makeable position was slim.  Finally, the 5 ball was unattractive because it was nudged against the 8 in a manner that left only two extremely precise points to hit.
    • He cashed out for three ninths of the available pot and then made the 6 anyway.
  2. Sean B made two balls on the Table 02 break shot and had shape on the 1-ball into the southeast corner. But the distance between cue-ball and 1 was significant and the cue was a tad off of the northern rail causing a hampered bridge hand.  He lined it up, executed, and missed.
  3. The remaining raffle pot rolls over to Week 02.

OTHER:

  1. Our rosters include a total of six brand new players this season.  League debuts on this night:
    • Joe P shot a 65 and Randy S scored 48 – both for the Six Amigos team.
    • The previously-mentioned Dave K of raffle fame scored a 46.
    • Micah N of the Free Agents tallied 61 points.
    • The other two rookies (Alex B and Cam R) did not play this evening.
  2. The Free Agents were the first team affected by the new rule 20.E because their opponent’s overall handicap was increased by 8 points due to a missing player.  The Free Agents therefore had 8 points deducted.
    • Please recognize that the rule allows for the reverse scenario to also happen.  If the opponent team’s handicap had decreased, then the Free Agents (or any other team) would have been increased the equivalent points.
  3. This is our first season with 16 teams since the pre-Covid era.
  4. Zero individuals invested in the Top Shooter side-pot.  Two more scheduled weeks remain to get in on it.  See rule 24.A.iii for more details.
  5. The PhaCues and Free Agents returned to score 320 each and the Road Warriors returned to score 307 after a multi-season absence for all three.
  6. Bill S of the Free Agents scored a 68 on the tables and infinity on earning respect.
