Noteworthy events from 2023 Spring Week 10

Outstanding outing(s):

  1. Mike M tallied the only perfect 80.
  2. TJ B and Eric L (HWGA Rejects 2.0 teammates) each shot a 77.
  3.  Mona T, Tony C, and Ed S each finished with 76 points.

RAFFLE Status:

  1. Mike M (already mentioned in the Outstanding outing(s) section above) was selected and broke on Table 02.  The 9-ball wandered toward the NW corner but stopped short for a dry break.
  2. Scott C got picked for the first time since Sign-Up night of the 2019 Spring season.  Tonight, he broke dry on Table 05.
  3. The raffle pot rolls over to Week 11.

OTHER:

  1. Tom B of the Stick-e-Balls team made his season debut and shot a 63 in place of Paul S.
  2. Three teams (Stick-e-Balls, Free Agents, and Mighty Mantis Shrimp) had an absent player, but only the latter one incurred a HCP variance from it. The benefactor was their opponent Double Focus who therefore added an 8-point bonus.
  3. Former league member Adrian P made a visit and played a while on Table 18 with Eric C who was on a BYE.
  4. Concerns were voiced about last week’s Latest News write-up regarding a raffle-selected player who, “…departed for the night without identifying a stand-in.”   It was a news statement and not intended to reference the underlying justification.
    • In the spirit of rule 19.B (“Each league night, there is a limit of 20 selection-chances per league member – regardless of who pays for them”), someone who is leaving for the night before the raffle-selections happen, has every right to delegate someone else to use their opportunity unless the donation breaks that limit.
    • Therefore if last week’s departed player had the awareness to notify the raffle-runner before departing, he could have designated a delegate.
    • Paul A (last week) was running the raffle and did make a mistake by allowing the possibility that the selected player could have returned after having driven away.  In the spirit of Rule 19.H.i (“if the selected player is missing after reasonable search is conducted, then another pick will occur to replace that player), someone who has already driven away does not qualify as “missing after reasonable search.” That mistake will not happen again.
