Noteworthy events from 2023 Summer Week 04

Outstanding outing(s):

  1. Nancy K achieved the only perfect 80.
  2. Micah N shot the only nearly-perfect 77.
  3. Steve G and Kevin C each scored 75.

RAFFLE Status:

  1. Oh what a night.  Keith G was subbing for Mike K and therefore selected the 1st raffle winner.  It turned out to be Keith G.  Keith sank the 6-ball on his Table 06 break. The cue-ball rolled up table to the kitchen for good but lengthy shapes on a 1-ball to the NE corner.  Let’s pause for a recap on object ball positions:
    • All balls (except the 5) were on the east side of middle table and yet uncluttered.
    • 1-ball near the NE rail one-third of the way between side and corner.
    • 2-ball was nearly hanging in the SE corner.
    • 3-ball a few inches SE of the north side but further south than the 1-ball.
    • 4-ball was a mirror of the 1-ball along the SE rail but closer
to the rail and closer to the side.
    • 5-ball was a slight breeze from dropping in the south side.
    • The 7, 8, and 9 were well separated near the rack spot.
    • Alright, back to the action now.  Keith nailed the 1-ball and expertly followed for shape on the 2. He played it softly in the SE corner for shape on the 3 in the north side and allowing just enough leeway to avoid the 7,8,9 from interfering.  He paused, asked a question, and chose to proceed.
    • Keith sank the 3 perfectly and the cue-ball caromed across table between the south side and the 4-ball with a slight angle inviting ideal shape on the 5-ball afterward.
    • Keith shot, but the 4-ball hung on the table near the SE corner.
  2. Although Keith got to select again, this time it was Ed S.  Ed sank two balls on his Table 07 break.  He had a fair angle from the kitchen to drop the 1-ball into the SE corner.  The 2-ball was nearly on the west rail and a third of the way north of the SW corner. Ed shot with authority at the 1-ball but missed.
  3. The entire pot rolls over to Week 05.

OTHER:

  1. Steve G made his season debut and was already mentioned in the outstanding outings section above!
  2. Jim S made his first season appearance, but only in a practicing mode.
  3. There were a couple of questions/comments during the night that evoked the following response from the League Operator: Yes, it qualifies as a foul if someone coaches a player on a future shot without the player having first called a timeout. But only the opposing player of that game is eligible to call it a foul.
