Noteworthy events from 2021 Summer Signup Night

As has recently been usual, there were 20-something players who attended our signup night.  That is a quantity reference only and not having to do with age group!  The final count resulted in 10 teams with the season officially to begin on 22July2021.

Captains gathered for a meeting about rule change considerations.
Key points and changes resulting from the meet:

  1. They agreed to reject a proposal to remove the “and it is non-negotiable” clause in rule 7B.
  2. They agreed to insert rule 19.I which now prohibits using a Magic Rack in the raffle competition.
  3. They agreed to insert the principle of rule 19.J, but wording refinement is still available.  Currently, it will read as follows and is referring to the 9-ball raffle topic:  “The league operator or delegate will pick the table on which the player breaks. Typically, it will be the soonest-available league table, but an in-progress game must not be interrupted. For the first player, there is a time-urgency involved so that others are not kept waiting an unreasonable amount of time for the 2nd break opportunity.”
  4. Finally, they also agreed to add the following principle to rule 20.D, but wording refinement is still available.:  “There is also an automatic, non-negotiable 15-point deduction applied to a team that only has two players.”

Raffle Status:

  1. Mike M returned to the league and was selected first.  He made three on his Table 15 break and had juicy shapes on the 1-ball.  He made it in the north side pocket and was lined up perfect for a half-table shot on the 2-ball into the southeast corner.  He chose instead to cash out.
  2. Phil S returned to the league as a teammate of Mike M and he made one on his Table 16 break.  His leave on the 1-ball was clean, but its path to the northeast corner pocket was threatened by the presence of the 2-ball positioned near that corner by the foot rail.  Phil was successful and also cashed out right then and there.
  3. The remaining raffle pot rolls over to opening night of the new season.

Other notes:

  1. A few teams from last season will have new team names and/or a couple new team members this season.
  2. The Cue Quest team did not return, but a new team comprised of previous league members is signed up with the name of a famously long story.
