Noteworthy events from 2023_4 Winter Signup Night

The official signup for the general public concluded with 19 teams enrolled.  If it remains at this quantity, there will be one BYE week scheduled for a different team each week and the season will end on 28Mar2024’s Party night.  Also, because we’ll have more than 14 teams playing each week, there will be 7-foot tables included in this season’s schedule.

If any other individuals or teams are interested to join in, please notify the venue (Shooter’s Sports Bar and Billiards, Grayslake Illinois)  before Tuesday, 07Nov2023::7:00pm.  The venue will, in turn, notify the league operator by the final deadline of 8pm on the same night.

The season’s match play officially begins on Thursday, 09Nov2023 at 7:30pm.

The captains/delegates at the meeting participated in a rule change discussion and vote.  Summary of the discussions and changes:

  1. Rule 02: The initial vote was that we would not return to ACS sanctioning, but it was close and not all captains were available yet.  So the League Operator walked the floor later asking each team’s captain/representative. Ten, which is now a majority, voted yes.  This will require a one-time $15 fee to be provided per player. “Player” in this context is defined as anybody playing one or more weeks in this season. That fee is independent of the weekly league fee.
  2. Table 14 will be included again as a league table in our season’s schedule.  Table 16 will become the sole 9-foot table available for rent to the general public during league hours.
  3. The end-of-season scotch doubles tournament has a reputation for running too late, so the captains/reps agreed, despite only one nay vote, to implement a one timeout per game rule to discuss strategy among teammates.

RAFFLE Status:

There were 255 chances invested in this evening’s raffle opportunity.

  1. Mike K was picked for the first time this season (duh!!). He sank the 7-ball in the SW corner on his Table 02 break shot. The 1-ball was west of center table by a few inches and the cue-ball in the kitchen.  The angle and distance was tough for a cut to the NW corner, but Mike’s shot was perfect.  The 2-ball was too easy to resist sinking into the SE corner, so Mike was obliged to do it. The cue-ball rolled too far for his palatability on a shot at the 3, so he cashed out for 1/3rd of the available pot.
  2. Although randomly, Mike stayed in the Green Bay fan family to select Wes P for the 2nd opportunity.  Wes broke dry on Table 12.
  3. The remaining raffle pot rolls over to 2023_4 Winter’s Week 01.

OTHER:

  1. Seven teamless individuals signed up and six of them joined together as a team named Free Agents (of course Ed W was one of them).  The 7th joined another team.  One, possibly two, of the Free Agents last played in this league when the venue was in Vernon Hills.
  2. 13 of our 19 teams were in the just-ended 2023 Summer season.  5 others of the 19 teams, although somewhat reconstituted in roster membership, had been with us in the not too distant past.
