Noteworthy events from 2023_4 Winter Week 02

Outstanding outing(s):

  1. Mark D and Mike K each shot a perfect 80 – for Mike it was his 2nd consecutive and he therefore remains undefeated this season.
  2. Ed G had the only 75 and it was his best score so far during this calendar year.
  3. Paul S scored the only 74.
  4. Special note: Tony L more than doubled his score this week as compared to  last week.

RAFFLE Status:

  1. Kyle B in his 2nd week ever of league play was selected for the first time ever.
    • His break on Table 07 sank the 2-ball and 4-ball.
    • The 1-ball was appetizing for the NW corner and Kyle dropped it in with some draw to set up for the 3-ball in the SW corner.
    • He made that with draw to set up for the 5-ball in the south side.
    • Kyle power-followed it but the carom off the SE rail lacked enough oomph to set up for the 6-ball which was along the middle of the east rail.
    • Kyle cashed out for 5/9ths of the available pot.  Per our rules, there was no opportunity for a 2nd player because 5 or more balls were cashed out by the first player.
  2. The remaining raffle pot rolls over to Week 03.

OTHER:

  1. Should Be Out’s one absence had no impact on handicap.
  2. Behind the 8-Ball’s one absence increased their handicap by 8 points thereby having no impact on the opponent team’s HCP.
  3. Players who returned after a multi-season absence included Chris O, Sam H, Scott W, and Craig PIt was Craig’s first match play in approximately 20 years dating back to when our venue was in Vernon Hills.
  4. Roster additions this past week were Nestor C on Pool Sharks, Sam H joined Behind the 8-Ball, and Ben W became a sub on Road Warriors.
  5. Only Mona T has signed up so far for the Top Shooter side-pot opportunity.  See rule 24.B for more details.  Deadline for others to compete is Week 03 (30Nov2023 this season) at 11pm.
  6. Reminder that empty sub slots can still be filled but only through 11pm on Week 03 (Nov 30 this season).  After that any roster replacements must meet the criteria of Rule 20.F.
  7. In season trivia: We have 34 currently-rostered players with a points per game average of 8 or higher.  35 are lower than 7.0 and there are 38 in the 7’s.  12 of our 19 teams have all three categories represented.
  8. This author didn’t notice it when writing last week’s news, so added a new item therein regarding Eric L’s continued specialty.  Eric did not do it again in Week 02, however.
  9. Collections were begun this week for ACS Sanction fees.  They will resume in Week 03.  As a reminder, there is a one-time $15 fee for each of our players who has or will play at least one week this season.  That fee is required and entitles membership in the ACS through May, 2024.
