Noteworthy events from 2024 Autumn Signup night

The official signup for the general public concluded with 17 teams enrolled, which means there will be a BYE week.  The season will end on 02Jan2025’s Party night.  Also, because we’ll have more than 14 teams playing each week, there will be 7-foot tables included in this season’s schedule.

If any other individuals are interested to join in, please notify the venue (Shooter’s Sports Bar and Billiards, Grayslake Illinois)  before Tuesday, 27Aug2024:7:00pm.  The venue will, in turn, notify the league operator by the final deadline of 8pm on the same night.

The season’s match play officially begins on Thursday, 29Aug2024 at 7:30pm.

The captains/delegates at the meeting participated in a rule change discussion and vote.  Summary of the discussions:

  1. Tickets – 10 Captains voted for returning to tickets versus the randomizer. There will be a brief meeting at 7:00pm to go over a couple of stipulations of the return of tickets. Reminder, the cost for tickets comes out of the raffle pot.
  2. Penalty for subs – It was brought up to have the same “penalty” for subs with higher averages playing that reduces the handicap and awarding the “bonus” to the opposing team like we do with “missing player” penalty. That was voted “no change”.
  3. AGAIN – Someone brought up a dislike for the no-jumping rule, but that remains a venue rule with which we must comply.
  4. There was a mention of going back to unlimited coaches for the Scotch Doubles – Voted NO change, it will remain at one coach per team/per game. It goes much quicker.
  5. There are no rules about prohibition or limitation or minimum weeks criteria, therefore, rostered players for the current season are eligible to play the raffle under any circumstances.
  6. New first-time in-coming players will need to pay the $15 ACS fee which will be valid through May 2025.

RAFFLE Status:

There were 552 chances invested in Thursday evening’s raffle opportunity.

  1. Josh G was picked and sank the 8-ball in the corner pocket. The cue ball was up about 6 inches up from the spot and the 1-ball  was a couple inches off the rail about a diamond from the side pocket toward the foot side. He had to shoot over the 5-ball and made a gallant effort but just missed it in the corner pocket.
  2. Roy S made the 5-ball in the same corner pocket as Josh, but his setup was a little better for the 1-ball. He made the 1-ball, nicely setup for the 2-ball, tried to draw back for the 3-ball, but didn’t get to where he wanted for the 3-ball and cashed out for 3/9ths of the pot.
  3. The remaining raffle pot rolls over to 2024 Autumn’s Week 01.

OTHER:

  1. One teamless individual signed up (Tom M) hoping for the chance to play.  We’re hoping that a team with one or more sub openings will pick him up on the roster on Week 01, but the deadline allows for Week 03 at the latest.
  2. One completely new team has now joined.
