Noteworthy events from Winter 2021 Week 06

Outstanding outing(s):

  1. Mike Klamorick scored the only perfect 80.
  2. Jon W shot a 76 and slotted into the current Top Shooter rank.
  3. Mona T scored 75.
  4. Mark H tallied 74.

RAFFLE Status:

  1. Nancy K’s break on Table 08 included three announcements from voices in the crowd: one ball down, two balls down, 3 balls down — and with pauses in between.  The 1-ball was set approximately 5 inches diagonally away from the southwest corner pocket and the cue-ball three finger-widths off the rail, directly south and a little bit east of the foot spot.  Nancy aimed and shot.  The crowd emitted a loud moan when the 1-ball didn’t drop.
  2. Andrew S had the 2nd opportunity but broke dry on Table 06.
  3. The raffle pot rolls over to Week 07.

OTHER:

  1. Julian F had the most spectacular 2-shot sequence thus far this season and it’ll arguably qualify as such for the remaining years of our current decade.  His opponent on Table 05 (Jerry W) left him the following situation:
    • Julian’s only object ball positioned just out of the jaws of the northeast pocket
    • cue-ball between the footspot and the north side-pocket hooked behind at least one of Jerry’s object balls
    • 8-ball about 2 feet diagonally away from the southwest corner pocket and positioned between that pocket and two opponent object balls (the pair) to the northwest that were one and one-fifth ball-lengths apart from each other pointing southeast
    • Julian verticalized his cue stick and masséd
    • the cue-ball got around the obstacle(s) and curved as intended to clip Julian’s object ball into the northeast corner
    • the cue-ball, still spinning, ricocheted almost straight west about 3/4 down table for what seemed like a possible path through the pair’s one and one-fifth window to the 8-ball
    • Julian shot the cue-ball fieldgoal-style through the pair’s window and popped the 8-ball into the southwest corner for the victory.
  2. The Diamond Cutters leapt over half the league’s teams into 1st place with a 351-point output this week.
